Vacuum casting or Silicon tooling (also known as soft tooling) is used for producing accurate silicone tools for casting parts with fine details and very thin walls.
Usually a rapid prototype is manufactured first and this becomes the basis for the silicon mold.
Vacuum castings are precise replicas of the patterns, dimensionally accurate without blemishes, with all profiles and textures faithfully reproduced. The cost of vacuum cast parts is more than with Rapid Protoypes, but sometimes this is unavoidable. These castingscan be the link between protoyping and production tooling, especially when larger quantities are required.
RedEye Australasia can help with Vacuum Casting (VC) as well as rapid prototyping. Discuss your next project with our Engineers to discuss if VC is essential for your next project.
Thinking of going straight to China? You may want to consider using an Australian bureau to help navigate the pitfalls of prototyping in China.

The finished part is a perfect copy of the original master, right down to any blemishes, so an unadulterated master is essential for a good surface finish or finished piece.
